The journey of Activate focuses on personal development and professional enablement. The destination of each Activate project is an event, showcased during Leadership Fortnight at the University of Auckland. The idea behind Activate was to give students the opportunity to choose an event that they are truly passinate about, and share this passion with the community.
As a result, we encourage students to be very creative and innovative, and challenge themselves to create a highly polished and well delivered event.
The types of projects that are created in Activate are very diverse, and we encourage this diversity. We do not want you to repeat a project that was done previously and actively discourage this.
Based on the values and goals of AIESEC Auckland, and AIESEC internationally, there are two wide areas in which you can select a project idea.
Cultural Education projects focus on cultural, country or language specific learning. The outcome event could be an exhibition to showcase different cultures, a forum to discuss cross-cultural issues or any other related topic.
A past event had students create a netoworking event centred around international students.
Social Awareness projects explore global issues and educate on proactive solutions. The outcome event could be related to HIV/AIDS awareness, Poverty, International Conflict, Sustainability, and other topics.
It can also be related to issues on a local and social level, which are relevent to society today.
A team created a survivor style simulation activity to help create awareness about the realities of poverty.
Another team ran an event based on Consumer Apathy, and its relevance to society.
Up for a challenge?
Here are some specific roles that you can apply for to get that bonus experience.
There are a small number of Team Leader roles available. As Team Leader you will guide and manage a team of 5-6 fellow activate participants to bring your united vision to life. This role is highly challenging but also extremely rewarding. There is simply no better way to train your leadership skills than by leading a team. To be accepted you must be able to demonstrate commitment and leadership potential.
Do you have an interest in managing external stakeholders? Participants accepted into external relations roles will receive training and coaching in the areas of relationship management, networking, stakeholder engagement and sales. Support your team by working with an AIESECer to engage with external organisations and individuals.
